In most continental beds, a box spring or foam core forms the base of the bed, while an additional spring mattress on top ensures comfort. Knowledge About Your Choice

If you are choosing a continental bed, it is, of course, a good idea to be familiar with the structure of the bed before choosing which model you want. Our continental beds are made up of 3 mattress layers. The bottom layer consists of a box spring, which in most models is built around either springs or comfort foam. Above the base, you will find the spring mattress, which is the comfort layer of the bed. The spring mattress determines how firm the bed is, as well as how much comfort you get out of it. On top, a mattress topper is placed, which adds to the comfort of your bed. In many very cheap beds, the so-called "China models," the bottom mattress is typically just a wooden frame, which serves no real purpose other than to make the bed look bigger – beds like these you will definitely not find at Better Nights.

One of the clear advantages of choosing a continental bed is that in the sizes 160x200 and 180x200, you get a large mattress in the middle. In our continental beds, these mattresses typically consist of 2 mattress cores in a large cover. The advantage of this is that you won't notice the annoying gap traditionally found in the middle of the bed. Additionally, you also have the advantage that we can later change the firmness of each side of the bed if you feel that the comfort wasn't right in the first instance.

Boxspring Beds Firmness

As with other types of beds, there are some choices to be made when buying a new mattress. The essential points when purchasing a continental bed are the firmness of the mattress and the choice of mattress topper. Both of these factors play a crucial role in how your sleep experience will be. We consistently experience that it is not necessarily an advantage to lie on the bed before purchasing. At Better Nights, we are convinced that you will have a better sleep by making your choice based on clearly explained specifications and engaged guidance from specialists in the field, rather than trying 10 beds in 5 minutes at your local bed store. It is certainly not guaranteed that what feels right in the 4-5 minutes will feel good over an entire night.

It is also worth noting that you should not choose Multipocket springs solely because there are more springs per square meter in the mattress. A mattress with Multipocket springs will certainly be too firm for a light person, while a person weighing over 95 kg will find that a mattress with pocket springs will typically be too soft. In the case that someone weighs over 95 kg, there is an option to upgrade the bed’s springs from pocket springs to multipocket springs. We recommend this upgrade, as a heavier person will naturally sink further into the mattress than a lighter person. Therefore, more springs are needed to distribute the weight to achieve the optimal firmness. Multipocket springs are not 'better,' and if you weigh less than 95 kg, regular pocket springs will be preferable. The firmness we refer to here is, as mentioned, changed in the spring mattress in a continental bed.

Choosing a Mattress Topper

The mattress topper is the next thing you need to be aware of when buying a continental bed. We have two options to choose from. The Celcius mattress topper, which is made of Memory Foam, or our popular Latex mattress topper.

The Latex mattress topper is elastic, meaning it supports you depending on how you place your weight on the topper. The topper adapts in this way to your personal sleeping position, giving you constant support throughout the night. The more pressure placed on this mattress, the more the mattress pushes back, which is why the Latex mattress topper is an excellent choice across all weight classes.

Our Celcius mattress topper is made of Memory Foam, a foam that molds to body heat. This topper shapes itself according to where your temperature is highest, meaning it allows you to sink down at your pressure points, such as shoulders, neck, and hips. In this way, you are relieved exactly where you need it. Since this topper uses body heat to form itself, it does, however, become quite warm. The core does not dissipate the heat but instead holds on to it. This means you end up lying in a mold of your own body shape, which can limit movement freedom.
